Church Hymn

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great Name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above,
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love,

To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish but naught changeth Thee.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
But of all Thy rich graces this grace, Lord, impart,
Take the veil from our faces, the vile from our heart.

Words: Walter C. Smith, Hymns of Christ and the Christ-ian Life, 1876.

Collect of the Day

"Our God of Compassion, our Parent, the source of every life, Lord, the refuge of the penitent, who loves, forgives and strengthens all who seek you: we behold your love revealed in the suffering of the Triune God on the cross for the sake of our salvation. Empower us, your people by filling us with your liberating spirit, that, like your Son we may faithfully participate in Your mission, to bring forth justice, set the oppressed free and be a voice for the voiceless. Use us as instruments of your peace, to proclaim the gospel of liberation and to reveal Christ through lives of compassion. We pray this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever." Amen.
