Church Hymn

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great Name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above,
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love,

To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish but naught changeth Thee.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
But of all Thy rich graces this grace, Lord, impart,
Take the veil from our faces, the vile from our heart.

Words: Walter C. Smith, Hymns of Christ and the Christ-ian Life, 1876.

Collect of the Day

"All Knowing and consecrating God, the chief shepherd of our souls, we thank you for the ordained ministry of the church, and the gift of the prophetic word you have endowed upon your servants. Grace your ministers with the heart of a servant, so that they may receive the compassion and love of our Saviour Jesus Christ. May they be transformed to destroy the evil around them and build lives for your Kingdom. Empower them to serve you, not out of compulsion, but with commitment, not for sordid gains, but with willingness and eagerness, not to lord over, but as examples, through Jesus Christ our Servant Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forevermore." Amen.
